Artist statement
Creating is something that I have been doing as a hobby for many years. As a mixed media artist, I create a lot of my work by hand building. I look for inspiration in the materials and media I find. Lately I have been perfecting my portrait paintings. I try to imagine the expressions and emotions my ghosted friends felt during the 2020 pandemic. I love watching people and ponder on who they are and what secrets they might hold. You cannot paint ignorance, but you can paint happiness and foolishness, which go hand in hand. Not too long ago I was influenced by a fellow artist, so I decided to incorporate unique backgrounds that tell a hidden message behind the characters I choose for my #Phakegn2020 edition.

Melee Marcelletti's BFA in visual art is from Miami International University of Art & Design. As a mixed media artist, she does not just have one love of art, but a multitude of affairs that lead to her creations and the love for all. First based out of Miami, but recently moved to a small town near Savannah, Georgia. Melee's aliase is #PhakegnLady.
Always looking for the next opportunity to translate life experiences into art and is constantly seeking new and innovative ways to develop her skills. Since 2014, she has been fully devoted to the arts. Through a meticulous approach, she has made a strong and positive impression using found detritus and refurbishing it to create something visual and provocative. In 2019 Melee was part of a Mural class where she and four other classmates painted a futuristic mural located in Miami International University of Art & Design. Now 2023 Melee is working on her Masters of Fine art and focus on painting.
